Hello Family! Have you heard the change? WOCG is now WJOU. Praise 90.1 FM has new call letters after nearly 30 years and we’re excited! Why would we be excited about this change? We are owned and operated by Oakwood University – yes, University!! On January 1, 2008, Oakwood College officially became Oakwood University. The call letters WOCG are a reflection of Oakwood ColleGe and after much discussion and study, the Name Change Committee of Oakwood University recommended the change to WJOU.On January 4, 2008, the Federal Communications Commission granted the request of our administration to change our call letters to WJOU. I like to think of the “mysterious” J in WJOU symbolizes the Joy we have in the school’s university status and that Jesus loves Oakwood University! Now I know change is hard – it’s been interesting for me after all of these years as WOCG!! But I believe this is a good change after all and that we are moving into a new era of broadcasting from the campus of Oakwood University. However, you will see that the heart of WJOU has not changed. We remain committed to providing uplifting, educational programming to you and your family. We remain committed to training students in radio broadcasting. But most of all, we remain committed to sharing the love of Jesus with the world each day. So get ready for more changes in the coming months – great changes like “The Midday Praise Café” – serving up a delicious blend of great music, good programs, interviews, and much more – every weekday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There is much more on the way – so stay tuned as we continue to lift HIM up and praise HIS name on the all-new Praise 90.1 FM – WJOU!
